Free Documentaries & How to capture videos
December 6th, 2007
The truth is free. If you’d like to watch quality documentaries on the environment, politics, human rights, gender, health, religion, the media, war, and many others, just go to www.FreeDocumentaries.org. They have a large selection including popular and obscure titles, such as:
- Bowling for Columbine
- Super Size Me
- Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers
- Life and Debt
- Loose Change: Final Cut
- The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear
These videos are streamed via YouTube. Since a lot of them are full-length films (>1hr), you can imagine how long it might take for these to stream. Alternately, you can capture and download them as .FLV files by doing the following:
- When the YouTube video is open, click on the “Menu” button at the bottom right-hand corner. You should be able to see the link to the video. Copy this link.
- Go to http://www.keepvid.com and paste the video link on the text field provided. Hit the “Download” button. You will be provided with a new download link at the bottom of the text field.
- Right-click on this new download link and click “Save As” (IE) or “Save Link As” (Firefox). Enter a filename that should be in the format: <filename>.flv - e.g. mydocu001.flv
- Download an FLV Player, also available from the Keepvid website. Install. Once the video download is finished, open it with the FLV PLayer.
Enjoy! ^_^
