Best Cartoon EVER: The Maxx by Sam Keith
October 29th, 2007
One night in ‘95, I flipped through the channels like I usually would. No big deal, except I heard this haunting voice, and suddenly I couldn’t move. What I saw was an animated series unlike any I’ve come across before - dark, harsh, cynical, witty, and funny all at once. It was mesmerizing. When it was finished, I was jolted back to consciousness. Thirty minutes of my life had gone by without me noticing it, and I realized that all the while, my mouth was open in awe.
Originally written and illustrated by Sam Keith in 1993 (with the help of legendary Alan Moore) as a comic book series, The Maxx eventually found its way to MTV Oddities as a cartoon series in 1995. At that time, MTV was churning out such greats as Aeon Flux and Daria. But enough of the introductions. The best way for you to appreciate it is by watching it, and here are the full clips of Episodes 1 and 2. The Maxx had a total run of only 13 episodes. Savor them.
